BIO
Art has always been a major part of my life. Coming from a long line of visual artists and creatives, I was lucky enough to be encouraged to make a life as an artist. Originally from Bucks County, Pennsylvania, I received my BFA in Painting from Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, PA. I recently moved back to the area after 7 years living in Phoenix. While living I was an integral part of the arts community. My work was featured in many exhibitions and art fairs. As the Program Manager at an art center in Phoenix, I managed educational and curatorial programming. Since I have returned to the Philadelphia area, I have been in several exhibitions. Most notable include the 11th Annual Juried Exhibition at the Artists of Yardley Art Center, which was juried by Jessica Todd Smith, Director of Curatorial Initiatives & the Susan Grey Detweiler Curator of American Art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. As well as Cerulean Arts’ 11th Annual Juried Exhibition, which was juried by Bill Perthes, The Bernard C. Watson Director of Adult Education the Barnes Foundation.
I am primarily a painter but also work in various printmaking processes. My artwork is about nostalgia, obsessive detail, symbolism, and the voyeur. My artwork often includes the ocean or structures – like buildings or homes, and grids. I like to blend abstract areas with realistic or graphic elements. I encourage people to interpret my work in their own way. However, an emotion I often try to elicit in others could be described as the feeling you get from being on the outside looking in. As humans, we are social and programmed to want to be a part of the group, so there is a slight sense of rejection in this feeling. And yet, there is also something calming about playing the role of the voyeur – looking at someone else’s life from an outsiders perspective.
